Copy signals while your PC is off

A copier installed at home stops when your computer does. Here is what has to stay on for Telegram signals to keep reaching your account, and how to test yours overnight.

You can copy Telegram signals while your computer is off only if the copier runs on someone else's machine. A copier installed on your PC stops when the PC sleeps, restarts or loses its connection, and a signal posted in that gap is never placed. CopySignals is a cloud Telegram signal copier for MT4, MT5 and eTrader: it reads the rooms you already follow through your own Telegram account and places the trades on your own broker account.

The rest of this article explains what actually has to stay switched on for a copier to work, why a closed laptop breaks most setups, and how to check that yours will keep running overnight.

Can a Telegram copier keep working when my PC is off?

Yes, when both halves of the job run on a server: the Telegram session that reads the room, and the trading terminal that places the order. If only one of them is hosted, the other still depends on your machine, and the chain breaks at that link.

That is the whole test. Ignore the marketing word "cloud" and ask two questions of any copier. Where does the Telegram login live? Where does the logged-in MT4 or MT5 terminal live? If either answer is "on my computer", then your computer is part of the system, and your signals arrive on its schedule rather than the room's.

What has to be on for a copier installed at home?

Three things, all on your side. The Telegram session must be connected, the terminal must be open and logged in, and automated trading must be permitted. MetaQuotes' own documentation is plain about the last one: with "automated trading disabled, running applications are unable to execute trading functions", and the same page adds that "if automated trading is disabled for a trading account, trading operations of Expert Advisors/scripts are not executed".

So a home setup is a chain of switches. Any of them can flip while you sleep. A Windows restart closes the terminal, a laptop lid puts the whole thing to sleep, and a router reboot drops the Telegram session. Nothing alerts you; you find out in the morning when the room says the target was hit and your account shows no trade.

Is a VPS the answer to a closed laptop?

A VPS fixes the sleeping laptop and leaves the rest in place. MetaQuotes sells hosting for this purpose and says on its VPS page that "your robots and subscriptions will continue to work in the cloud". That is a real answer, and plenty of traders run this way.

What it does not remove is the maintenance. You still own a Windows machine that someone has to pay for every month, log into, update and fix when a terminal hangs. The VPS moves the computer out of your house; it does not stop it being your computer. Our article on copying Telegram signals without a VPS goes through the three kinds of "no VPS" a copier can mean.

How does CopySignals keep copying with your PC off?

CopySignals reads the Telegram channel through your own personal Telegram account, using MTProto, so any room you are already a member of can be copied, including one someone else owns. That session runs on our servers. For every MT4 or MT5 account you connect, a terminal also runs on our servers, one per account. eTrader accounts are driven through eTrader's copytrading API instead.

Your computer is not in that chain at all. You use it to set up the copier and to look at the event log, and after that you can shut it, take it on a plane or format it. The copier can only place, modify and close orders on the accounts you connected, and it is not a broker, so your funds stay with your broker the whole time.

What does the copier do with the follow-up messages while you are away?

It handles them the same way it handles the entry, because the result of a signal usually comes from the follow-up posts. Break even after a chosen number of targets, a partial close at each target, a trailing stop, and the exit when the room reports a stop or the last target are all part of the copier, not something you do by hand.

This matters more when you are away than when you are watching. An entry placed at 3 a.m. and a stop moved to break even at 5 a.m. are two events. A copier that only handles the first leaves the second to you, and you are asleep. The mechanics are in our article on break even and partial close from signal updates.

What if a message is not a trade?

A post that does not read as a trade is skipped, and the reason is written to the event log. Rooms post screenshots, chat and promotions between signals, and you do not want any of those turned into orders at night. The log is where you check, the next morning, what the copier saw and what it did with each message. How to read the event log shows what an entry looks like.

How do you limit the risk of an unattended copier?

Copying while you are away means the controls have to be set before you leave, because nobody is there to intervene. CopySignals sizes each account as a fixed lot, a percent of the account measured against the signal's own stop, a multiple of the master's lot, or the master's lot scaled by balance, always capped by a maximum lot. You can also set a maximum spread, a cap on open positions, a word filter, an instrument list and a delay before placing.

None of this makes a room's calls better. It limits what a single bad night can do to the account. Trading carries risk, and the safest way to find out how a setup behaves is to run it on a demo account first, as described in our guide to copying signals to a demo account first.

How do you check that your setup survives the night?

Do this once, before you rely on it. Close the laptop. Wait until the room posts a signal, or ask a friend with a test room to post one. Open the event log on another device and confirm the post was read and the order placed with the lot size you expect. If you cannot do that test, you do not yet know whether your copier works when you are away.

The cloud copier is not the right answer for everyone. CopySignals supports MT4, MT5 and eTrader only, so if your account is on any other platform it cannot connect. And if you already run your own Expert Advisors in a terminal on a machine that is on all day, a copier that runs beside them on that machine can be simpler.

Which setup should you pick?

If you follow a Telegram room and want trades placed while you sleep, work or travel, use a copier that hosts both the Telegram session and the terminal, and test it with the lid closed. That is what CopySignals' no VPS Telegram copier does. Every plan is the whole product, from $14 a month, with a 30 day money back guarantee; see pricing. Frequently asked questions

Yes, if the copier hosts both the Telegram session and the trading terminal. CopySignals does: it reads the room through your own Telegram account on our servers and runs one MT4 or MT5 terminal per connected account there too.
Not with a hosted copier. A VPS is only needed when the copier is installed software that needs a Windows machine that never sleeps. CopySignals runs the terminals on its own servers, so there is nothing to rent.
It applies break even after a chosen number of targets, partial closes at each target, a trailing stop, and the exit when the room reports a stop or the last target. A post that does not read as a trade is skipped and the reason goes to the event log.
Close the laptop, wait for the room to post a signal, then open the event log on another device and confirm the order was placed at the expected size. Do the first test on a demo account.
Starter is $14 a month, Basic is $29 and Pro is $149, and Business is available by email. Every plan is the whole product, billed monthly by card or crypto, with a 30 day money back guarantee.
