eTrader copy trading: what it covers and what it does not

eTrader has copytrading built in, between clients of the same broker. Here is what you can set, who you can copy, and how to copy a Telegram room onto the same account.

eTrader copy trading is built into the platform: a client of a broker publishes a strategy and other clients of the same broker copy it onto their own accounts at a size they choose. It does not copy a Telegram room or an account at another broker, and that gap is where a separate copier comes in.

CopySignals is a cloud Telegram signal copier for MT4, MT5 and eTrader: it reads the rooms you already follow through your own Telegram account and places the trades on your own broker account. This article explains what eTrader's own copy trading does, what it leaves out, and how the two fit together if your account is on eTrader.

What is copy trading on eTrader?

eTrader's documentation says MAM, PAMM and copytrading are native to eTrader, offered where the broker switches them on. The help center page on copytrading puts it in one line: copytrading lets you copy the trades of another client of your broker onto your own account, at a size you choose.

The firm-side description is the same idea from the other end. On eTrader, a client of the firm publishes a strategy and other clients of the firm copy it with their own multiplier, on their normal trading accounts. The help center says the copytrading link shows up in the top bar of eTrader Web when it is available, and lists published strategies there.

So the master is another client of your broker, you pick one from the list, and your account follows. If that is what you want, you do not need anything else.

What can you set when you copy a strategy on eTrader?

The same help page lists the follower's options. Size can match the master with a multiplier, scale with your balance, or use a fixed lot on every copied trade. Beyond size there is an optional maximum lot per trade, a reverse switch that copies the opposite direction, and a way to disconnect at any time.

The page also states the limit that matters for risk: copied trades are ordinary trades on your own account and they use your margin. Choose a multiplier your free margin can carry through a losing run, not through a good week.

If those four sizing ideas sound familiar, they should. A multiplier, a balance ratio, a fixed lot, a cap and a reverse switch are the standard controls of any copier. We explain how each behaves in our note on lot multipliers, our note on sizing by balance and our note on reverse copying.

Who can you copy with eTrader's copytrading?

The help center is direct: copying runs between clients of the same broker. The firm-side documentation repeats it: copying runs between a firm's own clients.

That is a sensible design for a broker, and it leaves three common situations outside it:

  • You follow a Telegram signal room and want its trades on your eTrader account.
  • Your master account is at a different broker, perhaps on MT5.
  • You want one source to feed an eTrader account and accounts on other platforms at the same moment.

The pages we read describe the built-in feature only, so they say nothing about those three cases either way.

How do you copy a Telegram room onto an eTrader account?

This is the case CopySignals covers. It signs in with your own Telegram account, so any room you are already a member of can be read, including one somebody else owns. It parses the free text of each post into instrument, side, entry or entry zone, stop loss and every take profit. A post that does not read as a trade is skipped, with the reason on the event log.

The order is then placed on your eTrader account through eTrader's copytrading API. There is no terminal to host and nothing to leave running at home. You add the account with the broker, server, account number and trading password, and pick demo or live. The full walk through is in our guide to the Telegram to eTrader copier, and the landing page is Telegram to eTrader signal copier.

What a room sends after the entry matters as much as the entry. CopySignals handles break even after a chosen number of targets, a partial close at each target, a trailing stop, and the exit when the room reports a stop or the last target. eTrader's strategy copying follows a master's trades. A room's follow-up messages are text, and turning them into actions is the copier's job.

Can one source feed eTrader and other platforms?

Yes, on our side. One copier can send the same signal to accounts on MT4, MT5 and eTrader, each with its own sizing. Account to account copying is in the same product: a connected account can be the master and its positions are mirrored to every other connected account at its own size, across brokers and platforms. The cross-broker case is described in our article on copying trades between brokers.

A practical example: a personal account on eTrader and a funded account on MT5, both fed by one room. You give the funded account a small risk percent and a tight maximum lot, and the personal account a different size. The two do not need to share a broker.

eTrader copytrading or a Telegram copier: which one do you need?

Your situationWhere to look first
You want to follow another client of your own brokereTrader's built-in copytrading, if your broker offers it, per the eTrader help center
You follow a Telegram signal roomA Telegram copier such as CopySignals
The master is at another broker or on MT4 or MT5An account to account copier such as CopySignals
You need to be on a platform other than MT4, MT5 or eTraderNot CopySignals, which supports those three only

If you ever run both on one account, remember that two sources opening trades share the same margin, so set the maximum lot and the cap on open positions with both in mind.

What CopySignals does not do on eTrader

It does not publish strategies or take other clients as followers, because it is not a broker or a money manager. It does not sign in with an eTrader ID: the copier needs the trading account the broker issued. It gives no advice on which rooms to follow, and a bad signal copied exactly is still a bad signal. Trading carries risk, and the lot you set is your decision.

What does it cost?

Plans start at $14 a month for one trading account, then $29 and $149; the details are on the pricing page. Every plan is the whole product, eTrader included, and the plans differ only in how many trading accounts and Telegram accounts they cover. Billing is monthly by card or crypto, you can cancel any time, and there is a 30 day money back guarantee.

If you only want to copy another client of your broker, use eTrader's own feature first. If the source is a Telegram room or an account elsewhere, connect an eTrader demo server to a copier, set the maximum lot, map the symbols and read the event log for a day before you go live.
