Forex signal copier vs copying signals by hand

What you do by hand when you copy a forex signal, what a copier takes over, and when clicking the order in yourself is still the better choice.

Copying forex signals by hand means reading each post, typing the order into your platform and watching the room for changes. A forex signal copier does the same steps for you, from the Telegram post to the order on your broker account. CopySignals is a cloud Telegram signal copier for MT4, MT5 and eTrader: it reads the rooms you already follow through your own Telegram account and places the trades on your own broker account. Which way is better depends on how many rooms you follow, how fast they post and how many hours you can give them.

What does copying a forex signal by hand involve?

A typical post gives a pair, a direction, an entry or an entry zone, a stop and two or three targets. By hand you read it, open the order ticket, pick the pair as your broker names it, type the entry, stop and each target, and work out a lot size. If you size by risk, that last step is arithmetic on your balance and the distance to the stop, done every time.

Then the room keeps talking. "Move SL to entry." "Close half at TP1." "TP2 hit." Each message is another edit in the platform, and each one has to be made while the price is still where the room said it was. Nothing about this is hard. It is the number of small steps, repeated across a day, that wears it down.

Done by hand, you keep full control. You can skip a post that looks wrong, pick a smaller size because you are tired, or leave a trade alone. For one slow room that posts a few times a week, that can be the right way to work.

What does a forex signal copier do differently?

It takes over the repeated steps and leaves the decisions to settings you chose beforehand. On CopySignals that covers four jobs.

  • It parses the post: instrument, side, entry or entry zone, stop loss and every take profit. A post that does not read as a trade is skipped, with the reason on the event log.
  • It sizes the trade by your rule: a fixed lot, a percent of the account measured against the signal's own stop, a multiple of the master's lot, or the master's lot scaled by balance, always capped by a maximum lot.
  • It places the order on your account under the symbol name your broker uses, set with renames plus a prefix or suffix.
  • It manages the trade afterwards: break even after a chosen number of targets, a partial close at each target, a trailing stop, and the exit when the room reports a stop or the last target.

The last job is where most of the result of a signal is decided, which is why break even and partial close from signal updates has its own article. A copier that only places the entry still leaves you watching the room.

Is a copier faster than clicking?

For a fast room it usually is, because the order goes out as soon as the post is parsed, which matters when the entry is a market order at a price the room posted seconds ago. We do not publish a latency figure, because the delay you see also depends on your broker and the pair. You can also set a delay before placing, which is the opposite of speed and is useful when you would rather let the first spike settle. Our article on delaying copied trades covers when that helps.

A copier also removes the slip that has nothing to do with speed: the wrong pair, a stop typed with a digit missing, a target left off. Those errors cost real money and they happen to careful people at the end of a long day.

What does a copier not do for you?

It does not choose a room, judge whether a signal is any good or protect you from a bad one copied exactly. A weak room copied precisely is still a weak room. We give no advice on which rooms to follow, and trading carries risk whichever way you place the order.

It also has limits of its own. CopySignals supports MT4, MT5 and eTrader only, so an account on any other platform cannot be connected. A post written in a way the parser cannot read is skipped rather than guessed at, and you find that on the event log, so you need to read the log now and then. What to look for on the event log explains the usual causes.

When is copying by hand still the better choice?

Stay manual when you follow one room that posts a few signals a week, when you want to judge each trade yourself, or when you do not yet know whether the room suits you. Reading a room by hand for a few weeks teaches you how it words entries and how it handles follow-ups, which is exactly what you need to set a copier up properly.

Move to a copier when you follow more than one room, when posts arrive while you cannot look at a screen, or when you run more than one account, for example a prop firm account and a personal one at different sizes. The same product copies between your own accounts as well, so one setup covers both. See one signal on a funded and a personal account for how that looks.

Does a copier need a VPS or a computer left on?

Not on CopySignals. The MetaTrader terminals run on our servers, one per connected account, so you install nothing and rent no VPS. Your PC can be off when the post arrives. The article on copying signals while your PC is off goes through the details.

How do you move from manual to a copier safely?

  1. Connect a demo account first and let the copier run for a few days alongside what you would have done by hand.
  2. Compare each copied trade with what the room posted: pair, entry, stop, targets, lot. Fix the symbol names or the sizing rule where they differ.
  3. Set a maximum lot before you connect a live account, and keep it low at the start.
  4. Switch the live account on and read the event log for the first week.

What does it cost?

CopySignals plans start at $14 a month, and every plan is the whole product: the plans differ only in how many trading accounts and Telegram accounts they cover. Payment is by card or crypto, monthly, cancel any time, with a 30 day money back guarantee. The pricing page has the tiers.

Our recommendation

Copy by hand until you know a room's habits, then hand the typing and the follow-up edits to a copier and keep the judgement for yourself. If you want to try it on your own rooms, the Telegram to MT5 copier page shows the setup, and a demo account costs you nothing in risk.
