Why a Telegram signal was not copied
Six reasons a signal from a room never became a trade, how to see which one applied on the event log, and the setting that fixes each.
A Telegram signal is usually not copied for one of a handful of reasons: the post did not read as a trade, a filter or the instrument list ruled it out, the spread was above your limit, the open position cap was full, or the symbol name did not match what your broker quotes. CopySignals is a cloud Telegram signal copier for MT4, MT5 and eTrader: it reads the rooms you already follow through your own Telegram account and places the trades on your own broker account. When it skips a post it writes the reason on the event log, so the first step is always the same: open the log and read the line for that message.
This page walks through the reasons in the order we would check them. Each one maps to a setting you control, so the fix is a setting, not a support ticket. If you have not set the copier up yet, start with Telegram to MT5 and come back here when a signal goes missing.
Where do you find out why a signal was not copied?
On the event log of the copier. A post that does not read as a trade is skipped, and the reason is recorded next to a short preview of the message. That preview is the only part of the message kept. Match the time of the missing signal to a log line and you have your answer in most cases.
If there is no line at all for the time the room posted, check the Telegram side first: the account you connected must be a member of that room, and the copier must be pointed at the room that actually posted. Our article on the event log shows how to read it.
Did the post read as a trade?
A copier needs an instrument, a side, an entry or entry zone, a stop loss and at least one take profit. CopySignals parses free text, so most layouts work, but a post that is only a chart screenshot or a comment such as "gold looking good here" has nothing to place. It is skipped with the reason on the log.
Two cases cause most of the confusion. The first is a signal with no stop loss, which we cover in what happens when the stop is missing. The second is a room that changes its layout, for example a new emoji style or the targets moved to a second message. Compare the missed post with a few that did copy and the difference is usually visible. The signal formats a copier reads page lists the shapes that parse cleanly.
Did a word filter or the instrument list block it?
Both are controls you set yourself, and both do exactly what you told them. A word filter skips posts that contain, or lack, the words you chose. An instrument list restricts the copier to the symbols you listed, so a signal on a pair you did not list is not placed.
These are the most common cause after a change of settings. You add "XAUUSD" to the list on Monday, the room posts a trade on an index on Tuesday, and the copier does what the list says. Read your own filters against the missed post. We go through the options in word filters for signal rooms and the instrument list.
Was the spread above your maximum?
A maximum spread setting holds a trade back when the broker's spread is wider than the number you set. Spreads widen around news and at rollover, which is exactly when some rooms post. A signal that arrives at a wide-spread moment is not placed, and the log says so.
Setting the limit too tight makes the copier miss trades on a pair that normally runs a wider spread at your broker. Look at what the pair costs at quiet hours, then set the limit above that. The reasoning is in the maximum spread filter.
Was the cap on open positions full?
A cap limits how many trades the copier holds at once. When the count is reached, the next signal is not placed. If you copy two or three rooms into one account, a busy afternoon can fill the cap with early trades and leave the later ones out. That is the cap working, not a fault.
Count the open positions on the account at the time of the missed signal. If the number equals your cap, raise it or close something. Capping open positions explains how to pick the number from your own loss limit.
Did the symbol match what your broker quotes?
Brokers name the same instrument differently. One quotes EURUSD, another EURUSD.m or EURUSDpro, and a room may write GOLD where your broker lists XAUUSD. CopySignals has symbol renames plus a prefix and suffix, so the room's name can be matched to the broker's. If the name is not matched, there is nothing to place the order on.
Open the market watch in your terminal or your broker's platform, copy the exact name, and set the rename or suffix to match. The steps are in symbol suffixes and broker names.
Was a delay or the price the cause?
A delay before placing, if you set one, means the trade goes out some seconds after the post. If the price has moved while the copier waited, an entry that was valid at posting time may no longer be. Read delay before placing copied trades and entry zone signals if the log mentions the entry.
A quick order to check things in
- Is there a log line for the message? If not, check Telegram membership and the connected room.
- What reason does the line give? Parse, filter, instrument, spread, cap or symbol.
- Compare the missed post with one that copied.
- Change one setting, then test on a demo account before you touch a live one.
The demo step matters. Changing three settings at once on a live account and hoping is how a small problem becomes a large one. Our page on copying signals to a demo account first covers it.
When a missed signal is the right outcome
Not every skipped post is a problem. A filter that blocks a post you did not want, a spread limit that kept you out of a thin market, a cap that stopped a seventh open trade: each is a rule you wrote doing its job. Trading carries risk, and a copier that places everything it is sent is not safer than one that sometimes says no.
If the log shows a reason you disagree with, change the setting. If the log shows nothing you can act on, keep the line and the original post side by side, because that pair is what you need to diagnose it.
